I FEEL THE EARTHQUAKE

Tune: I Feel the Earth Move
From: Carole King, 1970

By Christy E. Catsos
A high school in Cape Elizabeth, ME

I feel the Earth move under my feet.
I see the buildings tumbling down.
I feel the P waves and the S waves
Whenever there's earthquakes.

One minute ago, the whole Earth was just as
Mellow as the month of May.
Oh, earthquakes, I can't stand em
When they come my way.

I feel the Earth move under my feet.
I see the buildings tumbling down.
There will be liquefaction and aftershocks
Whenever there's earthquakes.

Oh, they're caused by pressure build-up
And a massive energy release.
I know this mighty motion
Is something I just can't tame.
It's the tectonic plates, baby!

I feel the Earth move under my feet.
I see the buildings tumbling down.
I feel the Earth move under my feet.
I see the buildings tumbling down.
I feel the surface waves
From the Epicenter.
I see tsunamis.
I feel the Earth move under my feet.
I see the buildings tumbling down. I feel the Earth move under my feet.
I see the buildings tumbling down, tumbling down, tumbling down...

Statement:

I am a freshman in high school taking earth science, and we studied earthquakes this fall. When I happened to hear Carole King's song, I knew it would be perfect for a song about earthquakes! Writing the song helped me learn about earthquakes and see science in a fun way. I hope other high school students enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
