You Electron Thing

Something (the group name)
Evanston Township High School, Evanston, IL

We are students of Evantston Township High School. We thought this would be a fun way to better understand and hopefully teach subjects in chemistry. We all hope you enjoy the song.

You Electron Thing
(tune: "You Sexy Thing" by Hot Chocolate)

(Chorus)
I believe in molecules
Since you came along
Electron thing
Yeah, I believe in molecules
That's where you came from
You electron thing

Bonding right before my eyes,
Them orbitals be hybridized
Look at what you're doing to me
Pi bonds don't use no sp3
Another kind of which I'm fond,
This ones called a sigma bond

(Chorus)

The atomic radius can be big, to any amount
but valence electrons are all that count
the number of valence electrons, it controls how we act
Orbital want to be filled, so elements attract
How did you know bonding is at the outer shell
Because we learned it in chemistry class
right before the bell

(Chorus)

Electronegativity is the charge that decides
Where an electron will end up, and on which side
If there's a difference the charge will be sure
To make the molecule very poler
Electronegativity is the force that applies
To draw in electrons when they fly by

(Chorus)

If you want to see some electron attraction
Head on over to flourine and get some satisfaction
How did you know if the force would be strong
I ruled it out if the atomic radius was too long
Look on the periodic table and move to the right
That's when the force will have mucho might

(Chorus)
