The Bonding Song

Jared and Ruth
Evanston Township High School, Evanston, IL

My partner and I are both sophmores and had to write a song for chemistry. We chose this tune because it was easy to put words to and we thought it would be fun.

The Bonding Song
(tune: The Time Warp from Rocky Horror Picture Show)

It's astounding
Atoms Bonding
Covalent bonds begin to form
But listen closely

Not for very much longer
I've got to teach you this thing

I remember covalent bonding
When all those orbitals would be filled
They would share electrons
They'd form complete octets

Let's do some bonding again
Let's do some bonding again

It just takes two atoms
Within each other's sight
With incomplete octets
To hold those bonds in tight
Below 1.67
Electronegativity

Let's do some bonding again
Let's do some bonding again

It's so dreamy, oh, molecules forming
They stay together, with atomic forces
In covelent compounds, there's a low melting point
They don't conduct electricity well

With a bit of a mind flip
We'll go on a bond trip
And nothing can ever be the same
You're spaced out on this bonding
Like you're under sedation

Let's do some bonding again
Let's do some bonding again

Well, I was looking at some atoms
Just having a think
That they were sharing electrons as I stood in the street
Ions were-a forming, I really don't care how
They were so oppositely charged; it was happening now
I stared at them and there came a change
They would never be the same again

Let's do some bonding again
Let's do some bonding again

It just takes two atoms
Within each other's sight
With incomplete octets
To hold those bonds in tight
Below 1.67
Electronegativity

Let's do some bonding again
Let's do some bonding again
repeat.
